When you have a serious case of tooth loss, this could be too severe to be treated with a dental bridge. But with our custom full and partial dentures, we can help you enjoy a complete smile and avoid long-term dental complications. In today’s blog, your Columbia, TN, dentist talks about how we help smiles with custom dentures.
The Dangers of Major Tooth Loss
What causes major tooth loss to occur? We could lose individual teeth to concerns like tooth decay or dental infection, but major tooth loss could be due to serious injury to the face or jaw. Most commonly, this is the result of periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease that actually severs the connective tissues between the teeth and gums to cause adult tooth loss. When you lose a large number of your natural teeth, this could lead to issues with eating your favorite foods, causing poor nutritional intake. In addition, you could develop issues speaking clearly and the remaining teeth could shift to cause misalignment. You could also be susceptible to painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). But our team can offer dentures to take on advanced tooth loss and help you smile with confidence again.
Partial Dentures
If you have multiple gaps in your smile, spread out across the arch, this could be too severe to be treated with a bridge. But you could still have enough natural teeth that a full isn’t necessary either. With a partial, we take detailed digital images and measurements of your smile and use them to design a prosthetic with new teeth set in an acrylic base. The ceramic teeth will look natural and blend with the rest of your smile, and the base will mimic the appearance of gum tissues. Metal clasps will connect to natural teeth and help fit the new teeth in the gaps in your smile. You now have a complete smile!
Full Prosthetics
If you are missing the vast majority of your teeth, we will gently extract the last few and take detailed images and measurements of your bite, which we will use in a lab setting to design and craft your full denture. This will contain a complete row of new teeth set in an acrylic base, with suction and adhesive keeping your new smile in place.
