When a tooth becomes damaged, or develops an advanced cavity, then a dental crown can be used to return the tooth to full function and health. In some cases, placement requires about two visits. However, same-day dental crowns can be placed in just one visit using CEREC technology.
Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Crowns
Question: What issues can a dental crown address?
Answer: The restoration fits over the visible portion of the tooth, so we can use them to repair broken, chipped, or fractured teeth. We can repair decayed teeth or teeth that have developed infections or abscesses. We can also help replace missing teeth by securing a dental bridge or completing a single tooth dental implant.
Question: Can you place them in one visit?
Answer: We can! CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology to design and create a restoration in one visit. We first prepare the teeth by removing a small amount of structure. We then take detailed digital impressions using an intraoral camera. After creating a 3D model, we upload the information into the CEREC machine, which then mills the tooth from a solid block of ceramic. We then place the completed restoration with a powerful bonding agent.
Question: Will they look natural?
Answer: Yes! We use ceramic because in addition to being strong and durable, the material also looks natural, mimicking the translucent appearance of tooth enamel. We can also color-match them to blend with your smile.
Question: How do you maintain them?
Answer: You need to brush and floss your teeth daily, which protects your new restoration from plaque buildup, decay, and gingivitis. You also need to undergo a routine checkup and cleaning every six months, which allows us to monitor your new crown and remove plaque buildup, keeping your smile healthy and bright.
