You might feel that, though our recommendation for dental checkups and cleanings with our Columbia, TN team seems quite straightforward, there’s just something confusing about this part of your prevention. It’s as though a cloud of mystery surrounds these visits because you aren’t really entirely sure about what we’re doing or why throughout your visit. This general uncertainty leads to lots of questions about whether such visits are necessary and before you know it, it all seems very puzzling. Great news: You’re not alone! Many patients feel this way until they receive the very simple answers they need. Let’s get started, so you can stop seeing prevention as perplexing and instead see it as beneficial!
Are Checkups And Cleanings The Same Thing?
You know that you’re supposed to come to our practice for a dental checkup and cleaning. Since they always happen at the same time, you may wonder: Are they just one thing? Are they two different things? Here’s what you need to know: They’re two different segments of one visit, which we call your preventive care visit. The checkup portion includes a comprehensive examination of your oral health. The cleaning portion includes the removal of plaque and the polishing of your teeth!
Do We Actually Need Them Every Six Months?
Our team knows that you may not initially understand why dental checkups and cleanings are required twice a year if you’re doing a good job with brushing and flossing at home. However, we remind you: Think about how much cleaning we do when you come to us, even though you’ve been practicing excellent dental hygiene at home. It’s because some of the plaque you mean to brush and floss away remains behind. It becomes extremely hard (now it is called tartar) and you can’t make it go away. We can, though! This is why you see us. We offer your safety net for really cleaning your teeth to prevent decay and gingivitis.
Will You Be Mad If I Miss Scheduling One?
Nope! We always have a very positive outlook and have your best interests at heart. We may feel bad on your behalf that missing a dental checkup and cleaning may result in consequences like a cavity or two. However, the second you are ready to schedule your next visit, we welcome you!
