A Few Things To Consider About The Flu

It’s not the most exciting reminder ever but we think you should take a moment to reflect on the time of year. Yes, it’s autumn, which means lots of lovely things! Unfortunately, it also means that we are entering cold and flu season, which is never a happy realization but it is certainly something that you can do something about ahead of time. Let our Columbia, TN team guide you through some preventive tips as they apply to your overall and oral health, so you can make it through this otherwise cuddly time of year in one piece!

Get Vaccinations Early (If That’s Your Thing)

For those of you who don’t get flu shots, feel free to skip this section! For those of you who do receive an influenza vaccination, it’s time to take a moment to recognize that the sooner you receive it the better! It’s important to remember that the vaccine will take around two weeks until it is fully effective, so this is our helpful reminder!

Wash, Wash, And Wash

You want to remember, as well, that when you’re practicing oral health care, you’re touching your mouth and the germs in your mouth are touching the dental hygiene products you use. As a result, there are a lot of germs moving all over the place during your brushing and flossing sessions! During cold and flu season, it is wise to remember the following:

  1. Don’t ever share hygiene products

  2. Keep products separate, as much as you can, so you do not transfer viruses

  3. Wash your hands before and after caring for your smile in order to protect not only yourself but those around you

Remain Nice And Hydrated!

Remember that our team reminds you drinking more water will serve you well. As you’re doing your best to avoid the cold and flu, remember that your body needs to remain hydrated to remain healthy. Then, of course, should you get sick, staying hydrated is essential to recovery. You should also drink water to keep your mouth hydrated and to rinse away bacteria, especially if you’re having a hard time making it to the bathroom for your usual brushing sessions (do your best to protect your oral health!).
